Meta has
announced that it is working on a feature that will allow Facebook and
Messenger users to log in using passkeys on their mobile
devices. Passkeys enable authentication through fingerprints, facial
recognition, or PIN codes, offering a secure alternative to traditional
passwords.
Unlike SMS
or email-based multifactor authentication (MFA), passkeys are considered more
resistant to phishing attacks, providing a stronger layer of protection for
user accounts.
According
to Meta, users will soon be able to create and manage their passkeys directly
from their Facebook and Messenger account settings. The company states that the
move will enhance the protection of employees, customers, and partners against
email-related threats, while also preserving the integrity and confidentiality
of their communications.
