Information Network Security Administration (INSA) has provided financial assistance and various supplies—including food, medical items, and clothing—to citizens affected by a landslide in Gacho Baba Woreda, Gamo Zone, in the South Ethiopia Region, by visiting the site in person.
During the support handover ceremony, INSA Director General Mrs. Tigist Hamid and Deputy Director General Mrs. Aster Dawit were present in Arba Minch city, where they offered condolences and delivered emergency humanitarian assistance to those affected by the disaster.
Expressing her deep sorrow for the victims, Mrs. Tigist Hamid handed over financial aid and various relief items intended for urgent response to the Chief Administrator of Gamo Zone, Dr. Demis Admasu.
Beyond the material support, she stated that the Administration is carrying out significant professional work based on its mission of using technology to enhance citizens’ safety.
INSA, in collaboration with other stakeholders, deployed a team of experts to the affected area shortly after the incident. The team conducted aerial photography and data collection using modern drone technology. According to the Director General, this effort enables:

Scientific identification of the causes and triggering factors of the disaster;

Assessment of potential future risks and vulnerabilities;

Generation of digital geographic data (such as orthophotos, DEM, and DSM) for research purposes; and

Provision of evidence-based recommendations for future preventive measures and sustainable solutions.
The Chief Administrator of Gamo Zone, Dr. Demis Admasu, stated that INSA’s support demonstrates its role as a public-serving institution. He also noted that the technologies developed by the Administration not only ensure national security but also help address public challenges during disasters.
In her concluding remarks, Mrs. Tigist Hamid stated, “By utilizing our technological capabilities, we will fulfill our responsibility to protect our citizens from disasters and to help solve such challenges through scientific approaches.”
Overall, INSA has provided support to those affected by the landslide in Gacho Baba Woreda, Gamo Zone, including financial assistance of two million birr, as well as professional, technological, and material support.
