Ethiopia’s higher education institutions are set to prioritize the
development of skilled human resources in cybersecurity,
according to Hannibal Lema , Deputy
Director of the Information Network Security Administration (INSA).
Speaking at the 6th National
Cybersecurity Month event held at Haramaya University, Hannibal emphasized
that the foundation of Ethiopia’s digital
transformation depends on cultivating proficient human capital in cybersecurity.
He noted that the country’s national digital
journey can only advance effectively when universities produce highly skilled
professionals in this sector.
Hannibal highlighted that universities are
expected to play a leading role in guiding the country’s
digital transformation, focusing on training competent professionals capable of
safeguarding digital infrastructure.
Urge Mengiste, Vice President for Academic
Affairs at Haramaya University, confirmed that the university
is fully prepared and committed to launching
cybersecurity education programs in collaboration with INSA.
The 6th National Cybersecurity Month, under the theme “Cybersecurity – The Foundation of Digital Ethiopia,”
began on October 1, 2018,
and features a series of activities including cybersecurity
awareness training, Q&A competitions, and Capture The Flag (CTF) challenges.
The program brings together INSA officials,
experts, university leaders, faculty, and students to engage in
knowledge-sharing and practical exercises.
This initiative underscores the critical
role of universities in building Ethiopia’s cybersecurity capacity,
which is essential for safeguarding the
country’s digital infrastructure and advancing its digital economy.
