A
tripartite agreement on electronic tax collection has been signed among the
Ministry of Revenue, the Information Network Security Administration (INSA),
Ahadu Bank, and Geda Bank. This collaboration enables taxpayers to declare and
pay their taxes through INSA’s accessible electronic payment platform,
enhancing efficiency and convenience in tax services.
At the
signing ceremony, INSA Director General Mrs. Tigist Hamid emphasized the
agency’s commitment to building national capacity by addressing technological
gaps while ensuring cybersecurity and digital sovereignty. She highlighted the
Ministry of Revenue’s pioneering role in developing Ethiopia’s digital
financial ecosystem, noting the “Darash” electronic payment system launched a
decade ago as a key driver of progress in the country’s digital finance
landscape.
Minister
of Revenue Mrs. Aynalem Nigusse underscored the benefits of the electronic tax
payment system, which is expected to streamline tax services and significantly
boost domestic revenue collection. The Ministry has partnered with 22 banks to
facilitate electronic tax payments, with Ahadu Bank and Geda Bank recently
completing system preparations to integrate with the “Darash” platform.
Representatives from both banks hailed this development as a milestone in
Ethiopia’s digital tax collection efforts.
