Focus Given to Strengthening Technological and Operational Systems to Prevent and Respond to Cybersecurity Threats

Benishangul-Gumuz Science and Technology Agency announced that focused efforts are underway to develop technological infrastructures and enhanced operational systems that enable the proactive prevention of and response to cybersecurity threats.

In collaboration with Information Network Security Administration (INSA), a discussion was held on the Cybersecurity Standard Framework for regional media leaders and government communication officials.

During the discussion, the Agency’s Director General, Mr. Yitayal Belay, stated that since the region hosts the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, it is essential to ensure robust cybersecurity measures to protect national assets and infrastructure from information breaches and hostile cyber actors. He noted that the region is working in close coordination with INSA to establish reliable cybersecurity protections.

Mr. Yitayal further explained that INSA’s standard framework enables the building of secure technologies by preventing potential cyberattacks, and emphasized the need for coordinated and integrated efforts to implement it effectively.

He also stressed that strengthening technological infrastructures capable of early threat detection and response requires joint action and sustained collaboration.

Additionally, Mr. Dagnaw Wale, Senior Cybersecurity Threat Analysis Expert at INSA, stated that cybersecurity policies and legal frameworks have been prepared and put into implementation to ensure preparedness against potential cyber threats.
