Ethiopia to Celebrate the 6th National Cybersecurity Month Under the Theme: “Cybersecurity – The Foundation of Digital Ethiopia”

Addis Ababa, Meskerem 29, 2018 E.C. — The Director General of the Information Network Security Administration (INSA), W/ro Tigist Hamid, announced in a press briefing that the 6th National Cybersecurity Month will be observed from Tikimt 1 to 30, 2018 E.C. under the central theme: “Cybersecurity – The Foundation of Digital Ethiopia.”

In her announcement, the Director General explained that the month will be marked through various awareness-raising programs and initiatives aimed at educating the public and institutions about cybersecurity.

She emphasized that as the use of digital technology increases in Ethiopia, the country is facing a growing number of cyberattacks targeting citizens, institutions, and critical infrastructure. As such, Cybersecurity Month will serve as a time to enhance public and institutional awareness, draw attention to the importance of cybersecurity, and equip individuals and organizations with the knowledge and tools to protect themselves from cyber threats.

W/ro Tigist also noted that the 6th National Cybersecurity Month will focus on two main pillars:

  1. Combating the Spread and Impact of Misinformation and Disinformation – tackling the challenges posed by false information and its distribution.

  2. Focusing on Digitalization and Cybersecurity – highlighting the importance of securing digital systems as the country moves toward digital transformation.

She concluded by stressing the importance of collaboration across sectors to build a secure and resilient digital Ethiopia.
