Cybersecurity Policy and Legal Framework Training Delivered to Judges of Amhara Regional Courts

The Director General of the Information Network Security Administration (INSA), W/ro Tigist Hamid, provided training to judges of the Amhara Regional State courts on national cybersecurity policies and legal frameworks.

During the training program, the President of the Amhara Regional Supreme Court, Ato Alemante Agidew, stated that courts play a vital role in ensuring cybersecurity. He explained that the Supreme Court has initiated a digital system that allows the public to access and follow judicial processes from anywhere, enhancing transparency and accessibility.

Participants were also briefed on the digital operations system currently being implemented by the regional Supreme Court.

Ato Alemante further explained that judicial practice is increasingly facing issues related to cybersecurity, computer crimes, and hate speech-related offenses. He emphasized that beyond rendering decisions, judges are also expected to help protect the public from the social harms associated with these crimes. He reiterated that courts have a significant role to play in safeguarding national cybersecurity.

He also stressed the need for judges to develop a shared understanding of cybersecurity issues and to prepare themselves to fulfill their responsibilities in this context. He noted that similar training sessions would be strengthened and continued in the future.

INSA Director General W/ro Tigist Hamid, in her session with the participants, also elaborated on key cybersecurity topics and their legal implications.
