A Reliable Cybersecurity System Is Essential to Achieve the Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy, Says Ms. Tigist Hamid

Ms. Tigist Hamid, Director General of  Information Network Security Administration (INSA), stated that building a reliable cybersecurity system is critical to successfully realizing Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy.

The Director General made this remark while officially opening a strategic cybersecurity awareness training being held in Arba Minch for senior leaders and experts from the South Ethiopia Region.

In her address, Ms. Tigist noted that as the region is newly established, it has a significant opportunity to build its institutional systems from the outset on a modern and secure digital foundation.

She emphasized that by modernizing government services through technology and phasing out outdated, vulnerable procedures, a strong foundation can be laid for economic growth and efficient service delivery.

Ms. Tigist also pointed out that as government services become increasingly digitized and the number of users grows, cyberattacks likewise become more sophisticated. To counter this threat and safeguard the country’s cyber sovereignty, she explained that the Administration is preparing and implementing strict standards and legal frameworks.

For his part, Deputy Chief Administrator of the South Ethiopia Region, Dr. Abebayehu Tadese, stated that the Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy plays a key role in expanding the region’s ongoing service modernization efforts and fully digitizing public services.

He added that organizing such training by INSA provides valuable knowledge to ensure that the region’s digitalization initiatives are protected from cyber threats.

The Deputy Chief Administrator further stressed that cybersecurity awareness efforts must extend down to the lowest levels of government structure, and that the public must also be educated to protect itself from cyberattacks.

Dr. Abebayehu also expressed his commitment to building the region’s digital transformation on a strong security foundation and thanked INSA for its attention and support to the region.

The event concluded successfully with responses and clarifications provided to participants’ questions and comments.
